    Hello All,

Here are my thoughts on the Role of the Heart in Learning for the First Steps 101 course.

I very much enjoyed reading this section in the lesson. Reading through the scriptures was enlightening.

Having said that I also want to acknowledge that I already knew that it is all about our heart issue. Someone could approach the Bible with an academic attitude and ‘know’ the historical and cultural impacts within the scripture and never know Jesus Christ – never knowing God’s promised plan from the very beginning. They would be 100% mind and 0% heart.

Matthew 5:8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” (English Standard Version) was specifically striking for me, because I struggled mightily with the idea that I was forgiven in my first years as a believer. Every time I sinned I would have a rush of thoughts in my head about not being worthy which leads into the next sentence in the handout about Doubt and miracles in Mark 11:22-24.

As I worked through my issues and kept growing in the Lord the rushing thoughts began to fade and I began to see miracles around me. Basically my faith grew and through the Holy Spirit working in me I began seeing my heart grow.

I continue to try passing on my ‘knowing’ to those that God brings to me, both at work and in ministry at Grapevine Ecclesia. As I plug back into TECU and UNTCI and have conversations like this one I hope to pass on what God has shown me.

    God Bless.

Your reflection provides a core message that resonated with me personally, and I think touches on the universal truth for Christians that knowledge, while important, is insufficient without the engagement of our hearts. I enjoyed the First Steps 101 course, and your response to this chapter is a good refresher for me. I look forward to reading more of your posts. God bless you as you continue.

    Greetings Pastor Sam,

A great point central to the Christian Walk. Our being is not based on head knowledge, but what is revealed through the heart. That is why one of my favorite versus is Proverbs 23:7a “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” Knowing scripture is great, but application through revelation is what causes individual change. The Holy Spirit reveals these nuggets to us through our hearts. I look forward to more engagement though our site.

    Be Blessed

    Thank you both for replying.

I will be able to step back into this and finish these courses after June passes.

    God bless
