10 Bible Verses on Hope: Finding God in Difficult Times | UNTCI

In life’s darkest moments, where do you turn for hope?

How do we see God’s promises through a future lens. Here are 10 scriptures from the English Standard Version (ESV) that focus on the theme of HOPE. Each verse is followed by a brief note on its context or meaning. Please take some time to reflect and pray. God Bless.

Read each of these ten scriptures with a joyful and faith filled expectation of God’s promises.

The first three Hope scriptures

Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” Paul prays for believers to overflow with hope through God’s power and presence.

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” God reassures the exiles in Babylon that He has a hopeful future in store for them.

Psalm 39:7 “And now, O Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in you.” The psalmist expresses that true hope rests solely in God amid life’s uncertainties.

The second set of three Hope Scriptures

Hebrews 10:23 “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.” Believers are encouraged to cling to hope because God’s faithfulness guarantees it.

Romans 5:5 “And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” Hope is reliable because it’s rooted in God’s love, proven through the Holy Spirit.

Psalm 42:11 “Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.” The psalmist speaks to his soul, urging it to find hope in God despite despair.

The last four scriptures on Hope

1 Peter 1:3 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” Our hope is alive because it’s tied to Christ’s resurrection and God’s mercy.

Isaiah 40:31 “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Hope in God brings renewal and endurance to those who trust in Him.

Titus 2:13 “Waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.” The ultimate hope for Christians is Christ’s return, a glorious future event.

Psalm 130:5 “I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope.” Hope is placed in God’s promises, as found in His Word, while awaiting His deliverance.
